A note to our readers

The Long + Short has ceased publishing

30th March 2017

Dear readers,

We regret to inform you that from today The Long + Short will be ceasing publication. Our archive will remain online for the foreseeable future, so you can continue to find the great stories we produced.

The magazine was published by Nesta, a global innovation foundation. Over the last two and a half years we have aimed to tell you stories of innovation that challenge, entertain and inspire. Stories of entrepreneurship, new ideas and how the world is changing, ones we felt were better told journalistically rather than through formalised research, striving to bring Nesta's point of view to new audiences and to promote and inspire ideas of innovation for public good in new ways.

Dip into our archive and you'll find stories on everything from how Stan Smith shoes were brought back into fashion, to why the Francis Crick Institute was built, or what led Fosbury to flop at the 1968 Olympics. We've published stories on anti-mindfulness, cashless futures, basic income and having your brain zapped in the name of self-improvement. There have been series on futuristic plans for cities that didn't work out and a history of innovation in music to dance to, alongside looks at why the world has gone mad for labs, what we could learn about creativity from musicians who broke themselves out of creative ruts and whether women can fix our desperate political moment. And much more besides, including poetry, pie charts and short fiction.

We have been proud, too, to champion the work of great illustrators and budding artists.

Nearly all of our content was published under a Creative Commons license, and remains so. This allows you to republish these stories how you wish, so long as you provide full credit. More details about licensing can be found here. We hope you find this useful.

You can still keep up with Nesta via its website and weekly newsletter.

Thank you for reading and sharing our work.

Best wishes,

The editors
